Counselling can help your child to understand, express and manage their concerns through a range of age appropriate therapeutic techniques and tools.
Counselling can offer children and adolescents:
- A safe, confidential place to vent and seek support with an independent professional
- Help to deal with stress, grief, loss, anger, anxiety, family breakdown, bullying, IT addiction and conflict
- Tools to develop their emotional regulation skills, self esteem and relationship/communication skills
At LifeWorks our qualified Child and Adolescent counsellors work with you and your child on the most appropriate approach for your child.
Why is Child and Adolescent Counselling Useful?
Counselling can support children to become more emotionally intelligent and better able to self regulate their feelings and stress states. It can support Children to become more resilient and develop a healthy self esteem and self/body image.
How does the counselling process work?
The first step is for the child’s parents/guardians to discuss the issues that are concerning their child.
We ask a range of questions that help us to get a clear and detailed understanding of your child’s situation.
In the first 1-2 sessions, the counsellor will build up a rapport with your child and assess what will be the right therapeutic approach.
The counsellor will offer feedback after these initial sessions and confirm the recommended way forward. A minimum of 6 sessions is recommended to effectively make a positive impact/change.
How much does Counselling cost?
LifeWorks is a not-for-profit community organisation and is partially funded by the Federal Government. Our fees are based on how much you or your family earns per year (gross household income).
Your counselling fee will be based on your annual household income and the type of counselling you have accessed (Couple, Individual, Child/Adolescent Counselling).
The cost of counselling will be discussed with you when you call to make your first appointment. If at any time your circumstances change, you can discuss your fees with your counsellor or our Client Services team.
